ON THE MARCH: Boys’ Brigade members parade through Worcester on Founder’s Day (40147701)
THE Worcestershire Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade has been marking one of the most important dates in its movement’s calendar.
The Christian youth organisation was celebrating Founder’s Day, the day the brigade came into existence with a well-attended parade through Worcester on Sunday.
Moving off to When The Saints Go Marching In, about 200 young people representing the 17 companies which make up the county battalion, together with members of the Girls’ Brigade, made their way from the Corn Market to Sansome Walk Baptist Church.
David Butler, parade adjutant, said the blue-uniformed youth organisation had been going since 1883.
“We do a lot of crafts and camping, and it helps give youngsters some direction,” he said.
“We’ve got a good complement out today, including Stour Valley District Girls’ Brigade.
“And then following the march we’ll have a service of thanksgiving at the church, before marching out and giving the salute to the assembled mayors outside.”
