LEGENDARY jump jockey Tony ‘AP’ McCoy caused a stir when he dropped in to meet horse racing fans at the opening of a new betting shop.

The new William Hill shop in the Cross, Worcester, was packed out yesterday with fans jostling to see the racing star who had taken time out of his busy schedule.

The 17-time champion jump jockey and BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2010 joined Channel 4 Racing presenter Derek Thompson to commemorate the occasion and signed a few autographs.

Jennie Prest, William Hill spokesman, said: “It was brilliant to have AP McCoy open it. It’s lovely he found time to come along and meet the public.

“There are not many stars with the status he has who will go along and meet people. Everybody was really interested to hear what he had to say.

“He went down really well and the shop was packed.”

William Hill also gave the celebrities a £100 free bet each – with any winnings from Mr Thompson’s bet going to the adjoining Cancer Research charity shop and any winnings from Mr McCoy’s bet going to a charity of his choice.

Nice of him to take time out from his busy schedule and fulfill his sponsorship obligations.
