Court hears of Betty Yates murder suspect's arrest
THE man accused of murdering retired Worcestershire teacher Betty Yates denied any knowledge of the killing when he was arrested, a court has been told.
Bristol Crown Court was told that homeless Steven Farrow, age 48, was arrested in the early hours of February 19 in Folkestone, Kent.
He told officers “there is no way you will find anything on me”, later adding “you're on the wrong track. I just want to find out what you think I have done”.
Farrow denies murdering 77-year-old Mrs Yates, who was found dead at her cottage in Bewdley in January.
He also denies murdering Reverend John Suddards at his home in Thornbury, south Gloucestershire, but has admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
He also admits burgling another property in Thornbury over the Christmas and New Year period.
The trial continues.
