Talented teen steps out for bright future
7:40am Thursday 18th October 2012 in News
SHE’S GOING PLACES: Young ballet talent Elizabeth Ebbon.
A TALENTED teenager has landed her first role with the English Youth Ballet just months after gaining a place with the professional dance company.
Elizabeth Ebbon, of Warndon Villages, Worcester, won her place at an audition against more than 200 other hopefuls. The 15-year-old has now been cast in the EYB’s production of Coppelia for three performances which will be held in November at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre.
The Nunnery Wood High School pupil has been cast as a czardas dancer and will appear in the dance of the morning hours as part of the 100-strong cast.
Elizabeth will experience life as a professional ballet dancer with a rigorous 10-day rehearsal period, but she says the experience is something she has dreamt of since she started dancing 10 years ago.
“I started dancing when I was five,” said Elizabeth. “My mum and sister used to dance and I think that’s why I started. I’ve never danced with the EYB before and am really looking forward to the experience. I am excited about the role I am dancing as I know I have to do a lot of pointe work, but I know it’s going to kill my feet.”
As previously reported in your Worcester News, Elizabeth was accepted into both the EYB and the Midland Theatre Ballet, two of the UK’s most prestigious dance companies, earlier this year after impressing at both of her auditions.
EYB company manager Ben Garner said: “Working with the English Youth Ballet will probably be the highlight of these young dancers’ careers to date.
“The audiences watching the EYB are in for a unique and exciting experience too. They will be seeing top international principal artists and the best up-and-coming talent.”
Coppelia will be staged on November 9 and 10. Tickets are available from the box office on 0844 8713021.
