Sight concern: Mayor Anne Taft helps highlight the problems faced by blind visitors.
THE problems faced by blind and partially sighted visitors to Droitwich have been highlighted.
Spa mayor Anne Taft teamed up with the Droitwich Lions Club to draw attention to the situation and to support one of her chosen charities – Sight Concern Worcestershire.
Councillor Taft agreed to be blindfolded and led around the town centre by Droitwich Lions Club president Phil Wallis.
The challenge demonstrated some of the more obvious problems faced by the blind and partially sighted.
Members of the Lions group also collected unwanted spectacles during the day which will be donated to less developed countries.
Collection bins were placed outside Specsavers, St Andrew’s Square, and the Lions will continue to collect glasses at book sales, held on the first Saturday of every month, outside St Andrew’s Church.
Specsavers will also continue to collect unwanted glasses in aid of the appeal. For details, visit droitwichlions.com or call 0845 8335879.
