YOUNGSTERS have been warned about the dangers of throwing objects from bridges at vehicles below, following two incidents in three days in Ledbury.

Police have said it is a miracle that no one was killed or seriously injured.

A blue Jaguar had its windscreen smashed on Friday, October 27, when stones were thrown from the disused railway bridge over the A438 Hereford Road.

A pickup truck had its windscreen smashed in similar circumstances on Tuesday, October 24, at the same location. In each case, youths or children were seen on the bridge throwing objects over the parapet.

Similar incidents were reported earlier in the month in Hereford and it appears county children have not understood the message that these actions could easily kill someone or cause serious injuries.

"It is sheer good fortune that no one was injured in these two latest incidents but we cannot stress how irresponsible these actions are," said PC Dave Hamilton from Ledbury Police.

"Throwing any object at a moving car could cause it to swerve in avoidance, or damage it causing the driver to lose control and crash.

"What may seem like a harmless prank to the youngsters involved can so easily have tragic consequences and result in someone being killed or seriously injured.

"As it is, the damage caused to each vehicle will be costly to repair and we want to find those responsible."

Anyone with information about any of the Ledbury incidents should contact PC Hamilton at Ledbury Police Station on 08457 444888 or call the Crimestoppers hotline anonymously on 0800 555111.
