THE Bishop of Worcester’s chaplain has pledged to uphold the statutes and customs of Worcester Cathedral in her new role.

Reverend Lizzie Shipp has been appointed a Minor Canon of the cathedral during a special service as part of Evensong.

The role is given to a priest who by virtue of their office is associated with the life and work of the cathedral, and as a result support its work and witness.

She said: “I am very honoured to have been made a Minor Canon of Worcester Cathedral. This new role affirms the spiritual and administrative links which are already a natural part of being Bishop John Inge’s chaplain, and I look forward to serving the cathedral in its mission and ministry within the Diocese of Worcester and beyond.”

The Dean of Worcester, Peter Atkinson said: “The duties of the Bishop’s chaplain require her to have frequent and close liaison with the chapter and staff of the cathedral, and becoming a Minor Canon appropriately recognises this relationship.

“Lizzie already plays a significant role in cathedral life and the chapter is pleased to be able to affirm this by appointing her as a Minor Canon.”
