Cancer charity thief is 'the lowest of the low'

ANGRY: Nicola Brown, manager of the Cancer Research shop on the cross.
A THIEF has been branded “the lowest of the low” for swiping a cancer charity collection tin full of donations in Worcester.
Staff at the Cancer Research UK charity shop in The Cross were devastated when cash from a charity cake sale was pinched yesterday afternoon between 1.15pm and 2.15pm.
It is believed the thief made off with the money in the direction of the Hopmarket after a coat hanger belonging to the shop was found there later that day.
The store had been bustling all morning with customers buying cakes – many of which had been donated by volunteers and local businesses – in aid of the charity’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
Shop manager Nicola Brown said: “We went to put some money in the tin for a cake somebody had bought and it was gone.
“Whoever took it is the lowest of the low. “We’ve been around the streets, looking through the bins trying to find it.
“It’s been very busy today and we’re all gutted. People have been making cakes for us and it’s been hard work for everyone.
“It’s a special one today and if anyone has seen anything or heard anything we’d ask them to get in touch with the police.
“I’ve never known a tin go missing from the shop. We found a coat hanger in the Hopmarket that belongs to us so we think whoever took it may have concealed it in some clothing.”
Last night, some of the biggest stars from television, film and music got together for the Stand Up To Cancer telethon in a bid to raise millions to aid the fight against the disease. Witnesses or anyone with information on the theft should call police on 101, quoting 364-S-191012, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
