IT WAS music to Tom Carstairs' ears when he discovered he had won a competition run by Worcester City Council as part of Local Democracy Week. Fourteen-year-old Tom, who lives on Bilford Road, Worcester, collected a £30 music gift voucher from council leader Simon Geraghty for correctly answering a question about skateparks in Worcestershire. The poser was part of a special week of activities aimed at encouraging local 12 to 17-year-olds to find out more about politics. Local Democracy Week is part of a national campaign and this year Worcester invited groups from local schools to take part in debates in the Worcester City Council chamber at the Guildhall. A council spokeswoman said: "It is the first year we have done debates in the council chamber. It was very successful."
