Comment: Revamp for estate is so imaginative
The £8.5 million development of Worcester’s Dines Green estate is indeed inspiring.
The latest phase of the scheme entails building 27 homes, a shopping parade, youth centre and church.
The artist’s impression here gives an idea of how striking the facelift will be.
Importantly, it includes not just new homes, but some of the cornerstones of community life – shops, a church and a youth centre. These are all too frequently overlooked by those developers who have an eye purely for profit.
Yet without such essentials we create soulless suburbs, bereft of community rallying points and vitality, and so vulnerable to anti-social behavour – the cancer of modern urban life.
The homes themselves will be a mixture of sizes for single people, couples and families. This combination will also help build a diverse, healthy neighbourhood.
Much praise is due to social housing provider Worcester Community Housing, which is responsible for the Dines Green project. It has come up with a visionary scheme that is certain to enhance the quality of life for residents of the estate and wider city.

I seem to recall that similar headlines when Tolladine had millions spent on it and look at it now? its the people who live in the area that are the problem, not all of them but the council does not police the areas to make sure our taxpayers investment is looked after, but i do welcome a revamp for this area.
