TOWNSFOLK are being given the chance to get involved in a series of activities celebrating black history month.

Acapella singer-dancers The Black Umfolosi will be appearing at the Artrix Theatre, in School Drive, on October 27.

This is followed by harpists Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita, who will be appearing at the venue on November 2.

A special school screening of a major new production of Othello, by National Theatre LIVE, at 11am on October 11, is also being held at the venue.

Olivier Award-winning actors Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear take the roles of Othello and Iago in Shakespeare’s celebrated play about the destructive power of jealousy, directed by Nicholas Hytner.

A spooky Halloween event is being held at a special Caribbean night being held at the Wildmoor Oak on October 31. It is being hosted by award-winning chef Lorenzo Richards.

All the events are being support by Bromsgrove District Council.

Councillor Mark Bullivant, whose cabinet portfolio includes equalities, said: “I’d like to thank the Bromsgrove Black History Society and all the partners that support these events - together we have organised a varied programme for Black History Month.

“As ever the aim is to keep raising awareness of the positive contributions made to history and society by members of black African and African Caribbean communities.”
