THREE friends from Bromsgrove raised more than £3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society by taking on the Midnight Ben Nevis Challenge.

Carol Bennett, Janine Warwick and Karen Cochrane climbed the highest mountain in the UK at night by torch and moonlight on Friday, July 4.

The trio set off from Birmingham New Street at 9.15am and after arriving in Glasgow they then spent a furtherer three hours on a coach to Fort William.

They spent all night climbing the mountain and despite having not slept they reached the summit at 3am.

The women chose the Alzheimer’s Society having all had first-hand experience of people with dementia.

Carol said: “This was a really tough challenge that at times was extremely difficult. We even had to climb over snow. We just reminded ourselves the people we were raising the money for.”

“We all know just how difficult people’s lives are that affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

“We have had our own experiences with loved ones affected by the condition.

“We know the money raised will go towards helping researchers find out more about it and try and find a cure.”

Carol’s father was a sufferer before he passed away last year, Janine had to find a specialist care home to look her father who is suffering from dementia and occupational therapist Karen sees patients on a daily basis with dementia.

In May, the ladies sold tickets for a charity gig at Bromsgrove Rugby Club's ground where local band Dilemma Council performed.

The Alzheimer’s Society is still collecting money from the Midnight Ben Nevis Challenge and expects to raise £200,000."

Carol added: "We’ve met some amazing people on our journey and would really like to thank you all very much."
