THERE are certainly more relaxing ways of spending a weekend, but when you're young and fit you tend to do daft things. Although at least the efforts of the lads from the Recruitment Company Midlands Ltd in Worcester were aimed at charity. In torrential rain and hail and against 45mph winds, they ran up and down the hills of South Devon in the Coastal Trial Series of events to raise more than £1,300 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

Sean King, director of the firm in Sansome Street, completed the ultra marathon of 34.9 miles, recruitment consultants Olly Chanot and Sam Bradley completed the half marathon, while payroll and admin manager Maxi King and admin and accounts assistant Ryan Jones competed in the 10k run.

Mr Chanot said: "We constantly like to challenge ourselves within the office, and what better way than running in the hills of Devon in the rain and wind. That’s the reason we chose this specific run, mainly because it was a great experience and another way to look to raise money for our chosen charity. However, with winds of well over 45mph, as well as torrential rain, and painful hail, the run which included as ascent of up to 4809ft for the ultra and almost 2000ft for the half, was certainly not the easiest of courses the team has completed."

Next year perhaps a sponsored sleep-over.
