A RECENT Salary and Skills report undertaken by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce has found 96 per cent of firms have attempted to recruit staff over the past year.
The report, carried out in partnership with Hewett Recruitment, uncovered however that 69 per cent of these firms had difficulty finding the right skilled staff.
Businesses in Worcestershire particularly struggled in finding skilled manual and technical staff leading to 40 per cent attempting to recruit apprentices.
The average salary for these roles was found to lag behind those on offer in Herefordshire, however pay within Worcestershire tended to be higher for more highly-skilled job roles.
Laura Hewett, director at Hewett Recruitment, said: “Worcestershire is primarily competing with Birmingham for many types of roles as people weigh up whether the salary, benefits and environments on offer in the second city are worth the commute.
"In response to this, we are seeing businesses across Worcestershire and Herefordshire making positive changes to position themselves as employers of choice.”
