A GROUP of Worcester office workers have thrown their support behind one of the city’s hostels for the homeless.

St Paul’s Hostel in Tallow Hill came to the attention of staff at Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) when a former resident was seeking help in finding his first job.

PPDG delivers a range of government welfare-to-work initiatives, helping disadvantaged job seekers get access to the workplace or self-employment from their Shrub Hill offices and were able to find a placement for 20-year-old Alex Roberts at the hostel as a cook.

Mr Roberts said: “I’ve completely turned my life around and I’m very grateful for the help I have received from PPDG and the hostel.”

PPDG outreach worker Daniel Finney said: “After previous setbacks Alex has worked tremendously hard.

“We first met up with him in March and he is very passionate about his cooking, so we put him through courses and he has done very well on his placement.

“We are now offering services to St Paul’s clients, assisting them back on track and into employment.”

The hostel has 40 beds for men and six for women, provides a resettlement service and has a dry house for those recovering from substance abuse. Surgery sessions at the hostel help people find work and gain access to learning programmes.

Staff at PPDG have also nominated the charity for a £350 donation.

Sam Robson, manager of the dry house at St Paul’s, said the donation will be put towards the everyday running of the charity.
