WORCESTER’S MP Robin Walker gained an insight into the world of low-carbon engineering when he visited sector specialists Vickers Electronics which is tripling the size of its workforce in the city.

Manchester-based Vickers is using Worcester as its centre for a strategic growth programme in the Midlands and is recruiting four extra sales and engineering staff to increase its workforce here from two to six.

Mr Walker was welcomed to Vickers’ base in Wildwood Triangle by the firm’s managing director David Hilton and head of southern operations Jeremy O’Keefe.

The MP’s visit included a demonstration of the company’s latest energy-saving system – the V42. The technology reduces heating consumption thanks to self-learning predictive programming coupled with other energy saving features and high-accuracy temperature sensing.

Mr Walker said: “I am always delighted to see Worcester businesses that are thriving and growing, especially when they are in innovative and exciting sectors such as this one.

“The Midlands is a great centre for manufacturing and Worcester is a great base from which Vickers can sell its products across that centre.

“I want Worcester to be a centre for green, high technology jobs and I am delighted to see the contribution of Vickers to making this aspiration a reality.”

Mr O’Keefe said: “The importance of the region to the growth of our business cannot be overstated and it’s crucial to ensure our representatives in Parliament are fully briefed on developments in the fast-moving energy efficiency engineering sector.

“The Midlands is at the centre of the UK’s manufacturing, distribution and logistics sectors.”
