WORCESTERSHIRE businessman Peter Sumner has his sights set on livening up the spectacles industry.

The entrepreneur from Childswickham, near Broadway, set up loudspecs.com, which specialises in selling brightly coloured glasses.

“I’ve always liked things that are a bit different, not outrageous, just slightly off the main track,” he said.

“So when I started wearing glasses to avoid holding the Sunday paper at arm’s length, my natural instinct was to hunt around for something colourful, something different, something a bit loud. And to be honest, I struggled.

“Sure, there’s some choice out there on the high street and on the internet, but nothing you’d call a collection. Suppliers all seemed to be samey. I like to have a few pairs in my drawer, different ones for different occasions and I’m sure lots of people are the same. It turns out that like a lot of folks I’m forever losing or breaking mine and I always feel that the next pair should be different to the last, but just as cool. “I spoke to friends and family, even total strangers, and it seemed that I wasn’t alone. In a funny kind of way, the recession hasn’t diminished our desire to stand out from the crowd, quite the reverse in fact. “A sort of counter to the doom and gloom I suppose. That’s how loudspecs.com came about.

“We offer an ever changing collection of great quality, really cool glasses that are designed by us, manufactured for us and sold by us at everyday prices. “We are starting with 50 designs and will be adding new ones to the collection each month.”
