ROAD maintenance company Amey, which has bases at Strensham and Bury Court, near Ledbury, has won an annual award for excellence in the West Midlands for the second year in a row.

It was for delivering outstanding performance on repair work on the Ray Hall Viaduct linking the M5 and M6 motorways.

Amey, working together with the Highways Agency’s specialist supply chain, was presented with the Phil Stanton Award by the Construction Management Community, which recognises teams that ‘go the extra mile’.

The company, which has several other contracts in the West Midlands, manages and maintains motorways and trunk roads such as the M5, working to tight timescales on the project, lean procedures and introducing innovation which has led to efficiency savings of more than £200,000.

As well as this, the team’s proactive focus on safety has seen more than 70,000 man hours with no reports of injuries.

Jenny Moten, service delivery manager for Highways Agency’s Midlands region, said: “Amey impressed the judges with their teamwork and collaborative working. They pulled together to meet the objectives, offering flexibility and efficiencies which provided savings to the scheme.

“So far the proactive approach to safety and a respect for everyone on site has led to everyone being extremely satisfied and proud of the performance of the team.”

Paul Fillis, Amey’s principal construction manager, said: “We are delighted to receive such a prestigious award for the second year in a row.

"I’d like to thank the whole team for their hard work and dedication towards ensuring the site remains safe and I am confident that when the project reaches completion it will be a further testament to this.”
