AFTER getting just one of my four predictions for 2017 right - that the Prime Minister would call a snap general election - it is probably foolish to do this again.

But never one to turn down a challenge I thought I’d have another go, so here’s my attempt:

1. A spring general election - and May 3 will be the date.

I’m assuming this is where we are heading, as working with a such a tiny majority - reliant on DUP votes - could eventually become unworkable.

Many forecast Commons defeats as unlikely in June, but earlier this month Prime Minister Theresa May was facing exactly that with a Brexit Commons defeat.

If more arrive, any government that keeps losing these votes would struggle to survive.

2. Change at the top.

My best guess, at this point, would be that if we have the general election we are heading for another hung parliament.

Could it be this time Labour holds the balance of power, maybe power sharing with the SNP?

If that was to happen then May would inevitably step down as Tory leader, and I would guess Boris Johnson would become leader, although Worcestershire MP Sajid Javid could be an outsider.

If Labour did not do as well as last time, Jeremy Corbyn would step down and I would guess Emily Thornberry would become the new leader.

3. No state visit for Donald Trump.

As it stands the American president is expected to make a scaled-back trip to the UK early next year.

A large scale protest is being planned in London, although no date has yet been set.

The rough plans, it has been reported, are that it would just be a working visit and he would not meet the Queen.

I have a feeling it will be called off completely, and put back to 2019. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump himself pulls out, if he feels the event would not provide the publicity he craves.

4. England to reach quarter finals, being knocked out on penalties, and Brazil to win the world cup.

The draw looks favourable, and I see England coming second in group G.

After beating Poland in the last 16 match, the young lions will do well in their quarter final again Brazil, being knocked out on penalties to the eventual champions.
