IT has been three days since the heavily publicised interview between Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan and his best pal US president Donald Trump, and my instant reaction - that it was a terrible interview - has changed a little.

I've gone from terrible to deciding it is one of the worst interview specials ever broadcast.

I should say at this point it is no secret I'm not a fan of Morgan. Last May I was involved in a twitter spat with him over his treatment of Ariana Grande after the Manchester bombing. He deleted his tweet to me, and later apologised for misjudging the singer. I wrote then this was a television presenter who appears to revel in controversy, but I should have also added I have never rated him as a journalist either.

Morgan appeared on the Andrew Marr show to promote the Trump interview and mentioned his friendship with the 45th president, which stretches back to The Celebrity Apprentice.

This no doubt secured him the opportunity. The problem was this chummy feel extended into what was supposed to be a serious interview.

What we got was two of the world's biggest self publicists, stroking each others egos during a dull chat.

Every so often I thought an interview would break out, but this was quickly replaced with Morgan allowing Trump to bring out the soundbites - fake news, stable genius, all making a predictable appearance.

The bromance between these great pals ensured this was an easy ride. What we learned was absolutely nothing. There were no big revelations, despite Morgan pretending there were. And let's be clear saying, effectively, you would be prepared to apologise for something - which Trump said on the Britain First retweets - is not actually an apology. Morgan let him off the hook.

In fact the only time Morgan pushed Trump was on gun violence. But when it looked like we might be getting somewhere, it swiftly moved on.

I could have understood this if it was due to time pressures. If this did free up time though Morgan only wasted it by joking about Trump becoming Arsenal's next manager, and giving him a shirt.

Just three million watched this pathetic interview. I predict the next interview between these mates, no doubt coming in 2019, will struggle to even match that.
