A PASSIONATE and inspiring concert that marks the start of the Elgar Birthplace Museum’s First World War commemorations will take place on Friday.

Donald Hunt and friends will present Some Corner of a Foreign Field, an evening of words and music that reflect life in the trenches and Elgar’s wartime output as a composer.

Cathy Sloan, Elgar Birthplace Museum director said: “The Great War of 1914 to 18 transformed the lives of all who lived through it, and great composers at home in England were not beyond its reach.

"Music of all kinds played an important role in lifting the spirits of the nation and this concert will include some of those well-known popular songs of the day.”

Tickets, which include refreshments, are £8.50 and available on 01905 333224, www.elgarmuseum.org.

The evening begins at 7.30pm and is supported by Saffrons Bistro, Worcester.
