VISITORS can take a look around a Georgian church in the heart of the city centre on Saturday.

St Swithun's will host free activities including stone carving and Tudor music-making as part of Heritage Open Day from 12pm to 4pm.

The city centre church, which is maintained by The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT), the national charity protecting historic churches at risk, is one of the best preserved Georgian churches in England.

Tours will be on offer for those wanting to learn more about the fascinating building and children can discover the stories of St Swithun’s in the craft corner.

During the free event, cakes and refreshments will be available and bell ringers on hand to welcome visitors.

Will Scott, chairman of the Friends of St Swithun’s, said: “St Swithun’s is an extraordinary building in the very heart of the city.

"We hope everyone will come to experience and enjoy its wonderful history, architecture and atmosphere, and the special activities on offer on September 13.”
