NEIGHBOURS from a Worcester community joined together for a sponsored walk and fundraising day that raised more than £2,800 for charity.

People from Blackpole were inspired to raise money for Cancer Research UK after four residents died from cancer in the past couple of years.

Following the success of their charity walk from Worcester to Malvern and back in July, which raised £1,500, the community put on a fun day and evening earlier this month at the Archdales 73 Club, on Windermere Drive.

The event saw food stalls, face painting and games, followed by an charity auction, karaoke and disco.

Angie Smith, who lost her husband Baz to cancer last year, has been a major force in the fundraising drive.

She said: “It was great to have such strong support from the local community, everyone has really got behind the fundraising efforts.

“Lots of residents came down to join in the fun, even the local fire and police services paid us a visit as well as Mayor Alan Amos.

"It was a great day in aid of a great cause.”

Angie and her friends and family were supported in organising the events by Bal Phagura, a housing officer from Nexus Housing.
