A HEROIN-addicted grandmother from Worcester stole two bottles of perfume and an expensive electronic device used to record video games, a court has heard.

Carrie Anne Baker, aged 34, of Swaledale Court, Warndon, appeared at Worcester Magistrates’ Court via video link from HM Prison Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire after admitting previously stealing an Elgato Game Capture worth £119.99 from Maplins in Elgar Retail Park and two bottles of perfume from Debenhams in Torquay.

Nick Roberts, mitigating, said Baker had stolen the items to fund her heroin addiction as she had not received her benefit payments after returning to Worcester to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

He added she had had a very difficult childhood and police were keen she did not move back over fears she may be at risk from her estranged husband.

“We have an issue of revolving- door syndrome where she commits offences and goes back to prison. This could be her last chance to do something about it,” he said.

The games device theft put Baker in breach of a six-month conditional discharge imposed by Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 4 over a theft.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury sentenced Baker to a 12-month community order with supervision, a seven-week drug rehabilitation course, a 30-day activity course, a £100 fine for breaching her suspended sentence, and a £60 victim surcharge.
