THE new housing development at the former home of Worcester City FC is taking shape.

The stadium at St George’s Lane was home to the club for 108 years, but was demolished earlier this year to make way for 80 new homes.

The development by Wembley-based developer Careys New Homes was well underway this week, with building work having begun in earnest.

The development of flats and larger family homes is to be dubbed The Lane after City fan’s nickname for the former ground.

Worcester City are currently in the second year of ground sharing with Kidderminster Harriers and in April submitted a planning application to Worcester City Council for a new 4,130-seat ground in Perdiswell.

Although it was hoped the plans would be close to being decided by planning officers by this point, the project has been put on hold while a traffic survey is carried out.

Some parts of the former ground such as turnstiles and the entrance gate have been placed in storage in the hope that can be incorporated into the new stadium.

No one from Careys New Homes was available for comment.
