OUR annual general meeting and also the month in which Women's Institutes all over the UK discuss the resolution to be presented to HM Government in the summer.

At the general meeting we enjoyed a précis of the last 12 months, plus our exciting programme of our next year's speakers and events. Sheila "over-told" officially, and the current committee are all happy to remain. She also encouraged us all to plan our baking and jam/marmalade baking for our new famous stall at Gheluvelt Fete in August.

After coffee we discussed the resolution chosen by around 7000 members: "Failing to care - assessment of need in long term care." Currently there is distinction between nursing care and personal care, also the provision of care varies around the country. It may be difficult to find appropriate agencies for advice or help. Improved communication of what is available, plus remembering that along with rights to care, go responsibilities in self-care.

Delegates take the votes of the Institutes to the Albert Hall in June and there will be wide coverage on the media. As a women's organisation Women's Institutes have always been committed to support and encourage the welfare of the nation and, as Anne remarked, "We are not just women - we are Womens' Institute Women!"

Finally we gave details of our jolly outing to Stratford on Avon in June, before partaking in a delicious Pumphouse lunch of good soup, mixed sandwiches and salad, all prepared by Lucy and Michelle.
