WHITTINGTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OUR meeting held on Thursday, September 18, in the village hall opened with Jerusalem and then our president Helena Downham presented posies of flowers and birthday cards to two of our members. The business meeting followed.

The August meeting, which was held in Mrs Downham’s garden, had been a great success as was the boat trip on the river Avon from Evesham. We were lucky as the river was very high and broke its banks the next day.

A Christmas lunch outing is planned for December.

It is our 70th birthday next year.

We are planting a red maple tree, donated by Peter Lunn, in Whittington churchyard to commemorate the occasion.

We were told about several events being organised by our federation, including a visit to the Houses Of Parliament, a celebrity lunch and the autumn council meeting.

Before having tea we had two quizzes.

The competition, a pretty handkerchief, was won by Janine Wheatley.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, October 16, at 2pm, in Whittington Village Hall. There will be a demonstration by one of our members about how to make new cards from old ones.
