Earls Croome Women's Institute

9:59am Tuesday 17th March 2009

THE village hall was buzzing for our open meeting in March with members from our neighbouring WIs, from our ‘twin’ in The Lenches and visitors.

Business was kept to a minimum as the women had come to hear Bob Price talk on The Long Thin Country. Chile is certainly that, being 2,500 miles long but only 120 miles wide, lying to the west of the Andes.

After flying into Santiago, Mr Price first went north to the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth.

In the southern part of the country is the spectacular Lake District which runs for 200 miles.

The peaks in the area near Mount Fitzroy are truly dramatic, rising vertically upwards like sharks’ fins. Mr Price’s pictures were excellent and the whole talk was much enjoyed by all.

The evening finished with refreshments, followed by several visitors winning raffle prizes.

On Tuesday, April 14, at 7.30pm, Elizabeth Moulder will talk on Writing and how to get oneself into print. For details of our activities please contact Sue Strang on 01684 592408.
