Comer Women's Institute

11:50am Tuesday 2nd March 2010

A DARK, wet and very cold February evening did not deter a good number of members turning out for their monthly gathering.

Beryl Lord presided over the meeting in Viv Jackman’s absence, giving all members a very warm welcome. There were apologies from Viv and two others also on holiday, Barbara Turner and Sheila Garner.

It was agreed that the annual dinner at Spires restaurant had been most enjoyable. Beryl had sent a letter of thanks to the manager and his staff who had looked after our party so well, serving delicious food in a convivial atmosphere.

The minutes and correspondence were read and monies collected for forthcoming events.

Our invited speaker for the evening was known to many.

Dorothy Norman, a very talented soprano, spoke and sang delightfully of her love of music and how her life had evolved around it. She gave amusing stories and anecdotes relating to events that had highlighted her musical career. Beryl gave a well earned vote of thanks. The members responded appropriately.

The next meeting will be March 17 in St David’s Institute at 7.30pm with John Turrell talking about children’s traditional games. Do come along and join as a visitor or new member.
