MEMBERS and guests of the monthly Greek interest club enjoyed a highly informative talk from long-standing member Kevin Carroll entitled 40 Years Of Greece.
Using a combination of photographs, a keen eye and accurate memory, Kevin recounted his experiences of the changing landscape of life from the family home in Corinth.
After the refreshments break, during which the monthly raffle was won by David Leggott, a topical debate was chaired by Kevin focusing on the current state of the Greek economy. On the verge of bankruptcy, Greece currently faces the real dilemma of whether to attempt to pull out of the Euro zone and devalue an adopted currency to avoid a total political and financial implosion.
It was largely felt that with huge imports and faltering exports the country badly needs to regain control through greater measures of self-subsistence.
The next meeting of the club is on Thursday, March 25, when guest speaker Ray Aspden will present a talk entitled Greeks, Trojans And Hittites. Ray will examine the respective myths, archaeology and texts and try to establish a read across all three.
The meeting will be held at the Worcester Golf and Country Club, Bransford Road, Worcester, starting at 7.30pm.
Anyone wishing to come along will be made most welcome.
Further details can be found at the club website wahc.org.uk or by contacting the chairman, Peter Reynolds, on 01905 775991.
