THE meeting on Monday, February 8, was very well attended and we were delighted to welcome a new visitor who may join later.
Two other new members paid their annual subscription for the first time – Mary Black and Fiona Ramsell. Their interest and support is most welcome.
In her notices Dot Waldron read out the agenda for the day visit to Denman College next month. We are delighted that there are now 21 members booked for this trip.
The next group meeting will be at Crowle on Friday, April 16, when Reg Moule, gardener, will present “An Evening With Reg”. The Corbett group have invited us to share with them a visit to Oreleton Gardens on the Shropshire border in June.
Secretary Beryl Smith reminded members about the Worcestershire Federation annual meeting and craft display at the Showground in Malvern on Wednesday, March 24.
Our speaker, David Howe was excellent. He kept us enthralled as he told us how he believes that British humour has changed in recent years. His stories and anecdotes were met with much laughter as members relaxed with him and joined in the fun.
The competition for “A Joke”
was won by Maureen Such with her question “what do you call a large group of university students travelling on the underground?”, the answer “a tube of smarties”.
Gladys Lewis’ joke came second and Lil Spray’s third. Dot and Angela read excerpts from a book by Pam Ayres of some of her very humorous poems and Annie Brown played a tape of Pam herself reading others. We left for home laughing.
