THE meeting held on February 23 was very well attended considering the bad weather but it was all worthwhile with the entertaining afternoon we all enjoyed.
Vice-chairman Judy Smith opened the meeting to welcome Carol Gardener who had travelled up from Bath to give a demonstration, the theme shades of the seasons.
Carol had followed in her father’s footsteps and trained to be a gardener and told lots of stories of her experiences while she did the arrangements.
The first was a beautiful display in white and green using lots of foliage with white stocks, tulips, lilies, and roses followed by a colourful table setting in a tall clear vase filled with pink crystals decorated with colours including white chrysanthemum, pale pink roses and dark pink gerbera.
This finished with a ring of flowers round the base to match.
The next arrangement was a display on a Roman pillar which Carol called “Our Heritage”. This was mainly apricot roses and orange gerbera.
We then came to a display on top of a laundry basket using large pale green leaves, long stalks of pussy willow, blue delphiniums and pale green chrysanthemums.
The next meeting, on March 23, with Elizabeth Graham (national) – Travellers Joy – will be at St Andrew’s Hall, Poolbrook, at 2pm.
Visitors welcome.
