PRESIDENT Sally Sharp welcomed members to the 48th anniversary of this WI with an almost maximum attendance, and thanked members for wearing appropriate spring-like colours to celebrate. In honour of this special occasion, she had baked a cake.

Members were reminded to peruse Worcestershire WI News for activities and outings which could be enjoyed. In house, a trip was being arranged to the theatre to see Calamity Jane, skittles matches were being played, the pub lunch was booked and a fundraising jazz evening with a fish and chip supper was to be held on May 17. A visit to the Mail Box in Birmingham was also to take place in May.

The now annual holiday in October was to be a choice of Ireland, Jersey or Belgium.

Keen knitters have undertaken to make teddies, hats or glove puppets which will be sent to Africa, Romania or wherever there are sick, needy or traumatised children. Some members offered to make little bags in which the children can keep their teddies. It is hoped to have a display of this work in May.

Our speaker, Jill Fraser, then posed the question of how do you survive an English vicarage when not the vicar? She explained the background and what is happening now, since her family bought a vicarage in a small village, with the church almost in the back garden. Her entertaining style made us laugh and she then joined us for tea and cake in the village hall.

The next meeting will be on April 7, when we will hear about shiatsu.
