AT their meeting on Tuesday, March 2, Worcester branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild was privileged to hear The Magik of Batik, a lecture given by local textile artist Marie-Therese King.
Marie-Therese gave us a resume of her background and training then, thanks to the added magic of computer software, she showed us the beaming faces of children totally engaged with the art of batik in her workshops.
We saw the development of a green man banner for a May Day procession; the children’s own interpretation of Turne’s The Fighting Temeraire for Take One at the National Gallery, a ribbon banner at Oldbury Park School, and finally Marie-Therese’s personal work for an exhibition based on British birds, flowers and butterflies to be held in Hayon- Wye this spring. Marie-Therese has recently turned one of her designs, The Tree of Birds, into a book for young children.
Julie Gray will present “For The Love Of Gold” at the next meeting of the Embroiderers’ Guild on Tuesday, April 13. This meeting will be held at the Bradbury Centre, 2 Sansome Place, Worcester. We are always pleased to welcome visitors and new members. For further information please contact Jacky Shail, telephone 01684 311722.
