Inkberrow Women's Institute

PRESIDENT Sheila Williams welcomed members and our WI adviser Mary Lou Lockyear to our AGM.

We were reminded of the proposal to hold future AGMs in May at the same time as the resolutions meeting. This will enable us to have one extra speaker during the year. A vote was taken and the majority was in favour. This will commence in May 2013.

The educational bursary was won by Sue Canfield.

Lynda Longbottom composed a letter to our national magazine explaining about the oak tree planted to celebrate our 90th birthday. The tree is small but oaks, like the WI, grow tall with branches strong and true.

An outing has been booked for March 2012 to the Assay office in Birmingham. Members had also last month enjoyed a trip to Kelmscott Manor with lunch.

Members are invited to a garden club event at Abbots Morton with a flower demonstration on November 16 and a cheese and wine evening with a painting exhibition by local artist John Harris in aid of Inkberrow Millennium Green on November 29.

The AGM commenced with the treasurer’s report which highlighted the excellent fundraising events during the year.

Secretary Liz Sibbit reminded us of the varied speakers and outings enjoyed in 2011.The bud vase was awarded to Celia Montreal for all her work. Mary Lou Lockyear, our WI adviser, took over the voting of the new committee which will stand for 18 months. Sheila Williams was re-elected as president. We then enjoyed an American supper with savoury and sweet dishes made by members.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, December 7, in the village hall at 7.30pm. Our speaker is Phred talking about the Ocovango school. All welcome.
