North Claines Women's Institute

OUR November AGM was enlightened by hearing the Rev Peter Holzapfel talking about and reciting from the poems of Woodbine Willie.

Rev Holzapfel said none of the poems would be found in an anthology but the words as he delivered them to us rose powerfully from the page describing the awfulness of war, the falling leaves of autumn and the beauty of the birth of Christ.

Studdert-Kennedy is buried in St John’s cemetery and some of us may very well be visiting the site in the near future.

Having then been refreshed by a cup of tea and biscuits we were able to embark on the AGM with renewed vigour.

We were very grateful that Wendy Booth, a WI adviser, was able to attend our meeting and assist with the AGM and also the voting on a special resolution for the proposed change of the date of our AGM to the same date as we debate the National Federation’s resolutions in May.

Our members voted for the change.

The AGM proceeded smoothly to a conclusion and the committee for the past year were thanked by the president and by the members.

The members are now looking forward to their Christmas meeting on December 7.
