Rushwick in Bedwardine Women's Institute

AS it was our annual meeting we welcomed adviser Patience Broad.

She said she always liked coming to Rushwick as it had a nice atmosphere and she was delighted to see so many present.

It was reported that 29 shoe boxes full of goodies have been sent to troops in Afghanistan.

We would also be looking forward to the Christmas meeting which was being organised by a group of members.

Our long-serving secretary (30 years of service) read out the committee report of the highs and lows of the WI year.

The treasurer reported a healthy financial position and was thanked for keeping the finances in order.

After serving for three years as president, Sally Sharp stepped down along with five committee members.

Sally said she had enjoyed being president and her idea of small get-togethers to meet and drink tea and coffee had been especially successful.

It can be difficult to get to know other people when coming into an established group, and 2012 will be the 50th anniversary of the WI, and meeting informally in small groups had worked very well.

The fill-a-car scheme had also been great fun. Six members came forward to serve on committee and were elected en-bloc.

An innovative arrangement for a nominated president with three vice-presidents was worked out and the new president and new committee members were congratulated and assured of the support of everyone.

Forthcoming activities would be the pub lunch, a fill-a-car scheme trip to Ledbury and invitations from adjacent WIs Storridge and Alfrick.

The Denman Bursary for 2012 was drawn.

The dress code for the Christmas meeting would be the Charleston.
