ON October 29, the annual celebrity lecture of the Worcester Embroiderers’ Guild was given by well-known textile artist Maggie Grey, founder editor of Workshop on the Web and author of many books.
More than 90 members and visitors enjoyed a lively and enthralling talk entitled Texture For Embroidery – Raising The Surface.
Digitally projected images combined with a wide range of inspirational samples, demonstrated the plethora of techniques Maggie generously shared with her audience.
Her work involves complex, usually painted mixed media layers sometimes including digital imaging techniques.
These are then completed with hand and machine stitch, to produce an astonishing variety of richly textured objects.
There was ample opportunity to examine, handle and discuss the work with Maggie after her talk.
A raffle, delicious cakes made by Shirley Allen, and tea or coffee completed the afternoon.
