THE Worcestershire Women of the Year awards have raised almost £21,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.
The awards take place every two years in recognition of Worcestershire women who have made a considerable contribution to the county.
The winners were honoured at a lunch and awards ceremony with celebrity speaker Christine Hamilton.
Kathy Leather, commercial director of Worcester Warriors and a former winner of the Business Award, is chairman of the Worcestershire Women of the Year committee 2011.
She said: “We are thrilled to have raised this huge amount from the event to go towards the caring work of St Richard’s Hospice, which supports so many people in our community.
“I want to thank everyone – nominees, winners, sponsors and the organising committee for helping to ensure it was such a great event and raising such a brilliant sum.”
The winners of Worcestershire Women of the Year 2011 were: Ruth Jones – Achievement Award; Valerie Corfield – Voluntary Award and Nicola Matthews – Business Award.
St Richard’s fund-raising director Tricia Cavell accepted the donation at Sixways.
