Aprons sell out at national conference

SOROPTIMIST International Worcester and Malvern club members sold out of specially commissioned ‘Soroptimists Do It With Taste’ aprons at the organisation’s national conference in Brighton.

Past president of the Worcester and Malvern club, Margaret Rutter, organised the commissioning and delivery of the aprons, made by a women’s’ sewing group in Peru, and so far 250 have been sold. The women in the sewing group are mainly single parents who live in extreme poverty in the shanty towns of the capital Lima. The apron initiative helps the women to generate income to support their families.

Any profit from the sale of the aprons goes to a children’s feeding programme in Peru, which gives children a daily meal – sometimes the only meal they will get. The Worcester and Malvern club support many charities here and abroad. If you would like to know more about your local Soroptimist club join us at our international evening on Wednesday, January 18, at the Worcester Golf and Country Club, Bransford Road, Worcester, starting at 7.30 pm or contact club secretary Maggie Atherton on 01905 454625.
