AFTER the correspondence and business of the meeting had been dealt with, members were treated to a most interesting glimpse into the more remote rural regions of China via a collection of amazing garments brought along by our speaker, Jill Salmons.

While giving details of aspects of life in China, Jill passed around a great deal of beautifully handmade garments which the members were encouraged to try on.

The women and girls who were responsible for making these clothes are carrying on a long tradition and although it continues at present, there are signs that as the country opens up and folk leave the villages for more affluent lives in the towns and cities the traditions and skills will disappear.

It is hoped that examples of these beautiful clothes will be retained for posterity.

Apart from the monthly meetings Crowle WI has other activities for its members. We have craft, Scrabble and poetry groups which meet regularly in members’ homes.

We also have a bi-monthly lunch at local pubs. This month about a dozen of us enjoyed a lovely meal at the March Hare.

The Worcestershire Federation of WIs provides a variety of leisure, learning and social activities to members.

So ladies please come along and try us out. We would be glad to welcome you – 7.30pm, first Wednesday of the month in the Parish Hall.

In April, Peter Holzapfel will be entertaining us under the intriguing title of “Poetic Utterance”.

Our meeting will also include items in celebration of Easter.
