OUR meal out this month was at the Red Lion, sampling their new catering menu.

Our next eating experience at the community coffee shop at Callow End Village Hall is tomorrow. We meet at 2.30pm at the Orchard Club.

We were invited to Ripple WI’s meeting, where the speaker was Dr Frank Crompton, talking about Victorian asylums.

Five members went to the Brain Day at Little Witley.

Georgina, the organiser, spoke of the workings of the brain, while the speaker from Headway spoke of the work they do with braindamaged people.

We welcomed a neurophycisist from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham who explained the new surgery they can perform with the help of CT and MRI scans.

After lunch, we were told about the new QE Hospital.

At our own March meeting, Wendy Hill was our speaker and her subject was Lady Elgar.

Nine years older than Edward, Alice became his wife and manager and born in India, she had governesses and spoke five languages. Her family did not approve of her marrying a lowermiddle class violin teacher but they married secretly and had a daughter named Carice.

Our next meeting is on April 11, when Neville will tell of his life as a pastry chef.
