IAN Haffner, of Worcester Lions Club, is to lead the Lions of the Midlands District of Lions Clubs International.

Mr Haffner was elected to the position of 2nd vice-district governor, which means that by 2015 he will have reached the position of district governor and be leading the 1,200 Midlands members of Lions Clubs International, the largest community service organisation in the world.

Mr Haffner, aged 54, started his career in the energy industry in 1974 initially with Midlands Electricity and now works for npower, so completing 38 years ofcontinuous service.

He joined Worcester Lions in 2005 and in these seven years he has been president twice, in 2007/8 and 2010/11.

He has served Worcester Lions in a host of other positions and for the Midlands District he is a zone chairman as well as the district sight officer.

Outside the Lions club, Mr Haffner enjoys golf and cycling, completing the Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle run twice in the last five years, helping to raise more than £10,000 in the process.

His wife Joy is also a member of Worcester Lions Club, and they have a son, Adam.
