OUR May meeting was opened by vice president Janet Alger who welcomed everyone to our annual resolutions meeting and pudding club.

The resolution, which is to be voted on at the national AGM, calls on the Government to increase investment in the training, employment and retention of midwives in England and Wales.

Jenny Owen, a retired midwife, had researched the subject for us, and presented us with some worrying national statistics which were discussed.

It was however reassuring to hear that Redditch had the recommended number of midwives and was an excellent place in which to give birth.

Our WI has plenty of activities and clubs for members, reports were made on a visit to Hanbury WI, with a talk on the Staffordshire Hoard and a superb buffet and a visit by coach to Highgrove with Hanbury WI.

We have two book clubs, a cinema club, and a single ladies lunch club.

Several members had been given a guided tour of Inkberrow Millennium Green.

The sewing group are working on seasonal banners for the church.
