OUT of disaster comes triumph and at our May meeting this was the case following the cancellation at short notice of our speaker due to illness.

Our members came armed with favourite poems; long and short stories both philosophical and funny and jokes too.

Without any arm-twisting, members stepped forward and entertained the other members.

Long in the memory will remain the joke about the nun and the taxi driver and the tale of the confusion of a WC as a Wayside Chapel had members in stitches.

Laughter also followed the poem about a dog whose bladder control was not good.

The poems recited included those of Pam Ayres and John Betjeman. The members had all come up trumps.

The members also debated and unanimously voted for the resolution to be discussed at the 2012 AGM re the employment of more midwives namely “There are chronic shortages of midwives.

The NFWI calls on the Government to increase investment in the training, employment and retention of midwives in England and Wales to ensure services are adequately resourced and are able to deliver a high standard of care”.
