A FAMILY-RUN café and restaurant using meat from its own butchers has been awarded a top Worcestershire accolade for offering healthier options and offering locally-sourced food.

Banners, near the new Bromsgrove train station on Finstall Road, took the gold level Healthier Choices Food Award from Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) for its flexible healthier menu options and use of local food. It is the first eatery in the town to achieve the award.

The restaurant was also recognised for using meat from its own butchers, Banners Foods, in the neighbouring building as well as having a wide variety of healthier options including fish, chicken, eggs, soups, chargrilled meat and fish skewer dishes, light bites for smaller appetites, and healthier breakfast options.

Manager Adam Banner said: “It’s great to receive this award, especially being the first in Bromsgrove. It acknowledges all the hard work the staff have put in and it’s just in time for the new evening menu that started at the end of July.”

WRS Joint Committee Chairman Cllr Bronwen Behan said: “Wherever we see a Healthier Choices Food Award we know that business is making a special effort.”

The Healthier Choices Food Awards are for Worcestershire food businesses who offer customers a variety of healthier and customisable menu options, with a special Gold award for those who also use locally-sourced produce.

Eateries or caterers with the highest-possible five star Food Hygiene Rating are eligible for the awards that come with a range of additional business benefits such as nutritional analysis of recipes, discounted training and networking and informative events.
