Worcestershire County Council's County Museum at Hartlebury Castle is rolling out an inexpensive calendar of fun for the whole family this school holiday – ideal for those looking to entertain their kids and preserve their pennies.

From Wednesday August 1 to Friday August 31, three different activities specially designed with youngsters in mind, will take place every Tuesday to Friday.

Each week will have a different historical theme taking visitors through the ages from Dinosaurs right up to World War Two. Craft Activities include: Week 1 – Romans Soldiers, Mosaics, Clay Pots, Egyptian Models & Hierolglyphics Week 2 – Celtic Runes, Viking Stick Puppets, Mayan Masks & Indian Headdresses Week 3 – Clay Gargoyles, Jousting Knights, Marchpane Fruits & Plague Pouches Week 4 – Georgian fans, Victorian Scullery, Punch & Judy puppets, WW1 Pilots Week 5 – Cave Art, Snake Mobiles, Fossil Making, Sea Crocodiles & Neolithic Pots It costs just £1 per child for a whole days worth of activities after the normal admission fee (just £13 for a family ticket) so it is great value for money. And of course there is over 1,000 years of history to explore within the Museum including a special exhibition on the wild behaviour of the Georgians. As a further bonus on each of the five Wednesdays visitors can also join in with 'Have-A-Go-Archery' (small additional cost). You may be wondering why the Dinosaurs come last on our list – well that's because we are rounding off the summer with a special Dinosaur themed day on the Bank Holiday of Week 5 (Monday 27 Aug). 'Let's Rock!' will be a great family fun day looking at the rocks, fossils and Dinosaurs and will include a chance to meet Vernon the life-sized Velociraptor!

Rachel Robinson, the County Museum's Visitor Experience Manager, said: "School holidays can seem endless and it can start getting really expensive keeping the kids entertained but a visit to the County Museum is affordable fun for the whole family.

"In between activities, you can take advantage of our excellent café facilities or simply bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy in our fabulous grounds.

"Throughout the summer each week has a different historical theme, so families can visit more than once and be assured of finding new activities to delight and inspire them as well as learning something new."
