A DRIVER who was more than three times the drink drive limit was so drunk he nearly fell out of his car when he was stopped by police.

Rajvinder Mann was first spotted driving erratically in his Ford Galaxy on the M5 between junctions 4a and five (Droitwich) before he was finally pulled over just off junction 6 (Worcester).

The 36-year-old admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court following the incident, on November 21.

Fred Pilkington, prosecuting, said Mann turned onto the A4440 at Warndon, Worcester (off junction six of the M5) when he was stopped.

He said: “He was seen swerving from side to side and very nearly collided with another vehicle. The car was stopped at the earliest opportunity.

"He nearly fell out of the vehicle and had to be supported by officers and smelled strongly of intoxicants.”

He was not able to provide a specimen of breath at the roadside but at the police station the lowest of the two readings was 118mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – more than three times the limit of 35mcg. Mann of Prospero Drive, Heathcote, Warwick, had no previous convictions.

Sarah Brady, defending, said Mann’s behaviour had been “utterly out of character”.

She said the father-of-two had struggled financially since becoming ill and leaving his job in 2009, and had since been turned down for 100 jobs.

She added: “He bitterly regrets his actions.”

District judge Nigel Cadbury said he was condsidering imposing a custodial sentence.

Mann was released on unconditional bail until his sentencing on Friday, January 24, and was given an interim driving ban.
