FOR the ninth year running, Wychavon District Council is inviting residents to nominate buildings they think are worthy of a building design award.

The awards are split into categories to mark historic buildings and new work within historic contexts, new builds in the area, extensions and conversions to existing properties, energy conservation measures and sustainable construction, and projects that serve the community.

Jim Burgin, heritage manager at Wychavon, said: “Whether your project is a renovation or a new build, we want to hear from you. There are so many great examples of strong building design in the district and we want to recognise that and encourage others to follow suit.”

The awards are being judged by representatives on the council with experience of design, heritage and planning, as well as a representative from the Midlands Architecture Design Environment (MADE) regional architecture centre, local civic societies across the district, and an independent design practitioner.

Mr Burgin added: “The awards provide real recognition to public and peers as well as a raised profile within the industry. Winners have promotional opportunities at the awards ceremony and receive a plaque for the building – providing long-lasting public recognition of the achievement.”

To be eligible for entry, projects need to have been completed between July 2011 and July 2014, and fall within the Wychavon district. The closing date for nominations is September 12, and they should be either emailed to policy.plans@wychavon.gov.uk or nominations can be collected from the three customer contact centres in the district.

To nominate a building or project, include the name and address of the development, reasons for nomination, and contact details for the person and organisation nominating.
