CANCER patients in Droitwich are being offered the chance to find out more about improvement to oncology services in the county with a presentation.

The £23 million Worcestershire Oncology Centre will open to patients in January 2015 and will offer radiotherapy services in the county for the first time.

The Droitwich Spa Practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) has organised a presentation on Friday, November 21 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall on Worcester Road, where people will be able to find out more about the improvements to cancer services in the county.

The presentation will be led by Adel Makar, lead cancer clinician at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

He said: “The presentation is a great opportunity for people to come along, find out more about cancer services and have their say on services including the new oncology centre.

“The new centre will provide state of the art radiotherapy services to county patients, ensuring more effective targeting of tumours that cause less damage to surrounding tissue and less risk of complications.

“This work will make Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust one of the county’s top cancer care providers and forms part of a wider Worcestershire Oncology Project which will ensure the vast majority of patients can receive their chemotherapy treatment within the county.”

Anyone who would like to find out more about the presentation, which runs from 6.30pm, should write to the PPG at ppgspa@gmail.com.
